Me and my girls finally had a day off. And with beautiful days like this one, we had to make the most of it. Kranjska gora sounded like a perfect idea and it ended up with one of my favourite one day trips in Slovenia. I could say Kranjska gora and it’s beautiful gems had me at hello. <3
So we started off with a stop on lake Jasna located just 2km outside the city. A ride from Ljubljana to the final spot took around 50min. We were quite early (let’s say 11am) and it was basically just us on the lake. I was stunned by the turquoise water, amazing view on the mountains and piece and quiet that surrounded us. Because the high season has just ended and summer hasn’t started yet, all the bars and cafes were closed, however don’t take that as a bad thing, I really recommend buying some food in the market, have a picnic on the pier and enjoy the breathtaking view from here towards to surrounding mountains. The lake is guarded by a statue of a Zlatorog (golden horn), the legendary chamois of Mt. Triglav.
An hour or two later (we kinda lost a track of time lying on the pier while sun was kissing our faces), we decided to get some lunch and we stopped at the local restaurant Martin to eat some traditional Slovenian dishes, ‘ričet’ and ‘sirovi štruklji’. The staff was amazingly friendly and surprised us with bluberry spirit for a dessert on the house 😀 Definitely recommend it. (link here)
While going back home we stopped at at Peričnik waterfall. Actually there are two of them, and you can even walk underneath the lower one! (We didn’t get a chance to do that because there was a wall of snow still stopping us). Anyway, the waterfall is a great way to cool down in summer and a spectacular experience during winter when the waterfall freezes. It wasn’t planned to stop here so we ended up hiking on top in our definitely not appropriate sneakers hoping that we’ll survive without bad endings. However, when we climbed on top we were stunned by amazing views and steep precipice. If I lived somewhere nearby this would be my spot when I would seek for peace and quiet.
Definitely recommend stopping here, and climbing on top to reach the second waterfall to reach even more spectacular views.;)
So if you are thinking about trips to Slovenia this is the one that no doubt will leave you breathless.
